Cătălin Sorin Ivan is a Member of the European Parliament since 2009 and was re-elected in 2014. He is a Vice-Chair of the Committee on Budgetary Control, Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.
He was the Shadow rapporteur on the European Parliament Own-initiative report on FinTech: the influence of technology on the future of the financial sector. An economist by background, he is active on issues of social responsibility and the creation of individual wealth along with the fight against poverty and reducing disparities. He is also active on environmental issues.  

Mr.  Ivan closely follows new technologies and the role they play in communication and information, innovation, research, and alternative educational approaches.
